Our clinicians combine specialist dermatology expertise with a strong commitment to safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
Management and Administrative

Glenn Smith
Clinical Director and CEO
Glenn Smith has dedicated more than 20 years to health and social care. He began working in the sector at the age of 17 and qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 2001. Since then, Glenn has developed a wide-ranging career spanning clinical practice, leadership, education, and advisory work.
His professional experience includes roles as a charity director, medico-legal nursing expert witness, and member of the NMC Test of Competence Assurance Advisory Group. Clinically, Glenn has worked in tissue viability, nutrition nursing, patient safety, and primary care, practising as both an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Prescriber.
Glenn has published extensively and presented at national and international conferences on wound care and wound prevention. Since 2022, he has served as Chief Executive Officer of Lighthouse Medical CBS and Clinical Director of The Lighthouse Clinic, focusing on delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients across the Isle of Wight.

Malcolm White
General Manager
Malcolm White is an experienced healthcare manager with a well-established reputation across the Isle of Wight. He previously held senior leadership roles at the Beacon Centre at St Mary’s Hospital and brings significant operational expertise to Lighthouse Medical.
At The Lighthouse Clinic, Malcolm oversees dermatology services and contributes to service development and innovation. His work has supported the introduction of award-winning Teledermatology services, the delivery of NHS Health Checks, community outreach programmes, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) training for local businesses.
Malcolm is committed to strengthening healthcare services while maintaining a strong focus on patient care and service improvement.

Nicola Cranwell
Training and Development Manager & Company Secretary
Nicola Cranwell leads Lighthouse Education, coordinating professional training programmes for healthcare staff across the Isle of Wight, the South Coast, and the Lighthouse Clinic team. Her work supports continuing professional development in areas such as medical terminology, conflict management, and medical device training.
Alongside her education role, Nicola oversees marketing and website content and acts as Company Secretary, supporting the strategic development of both Lighthouse Medical and Lighthouse Education.
Nicola holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies from the University of Brighton and a Diploma in Digital Marketing. Her background includes senior marketing roles and consultancy work supporting organisations with business development, communications, and design.

Michelle McKenzie
Clinic Manager & Skin Camouflage Consultant
Michelle McKenzie manages the day-to-day operations of The Lighthouse Clinic and leads the dermatology team, helping ensure patients receive a professional and supportive service.
She is a fully qualified Skin Camouflage Consultant and a Graduate Member of the British Association of Skin Camouflage. Michelle is also certified by the Royal College of Nursing in the Principles and Art of Paramedical Skin Camouflage Application Techniques.
Her specialist knowledge helps individuals living with a wide range of skin conditions feel more confident and comfortable in their appearance.

Emily
Senior Administrator
Emily brings more than 13 years of experience across public and private healthcare settings to her role as Senior Administrator. She coordinates private dermatology clinics and supports the efficient management of appointments, documentation, and patient communication.
An experienced audio typist with a TQUK Level 2 qualification in Principles of Business Administration, Emily is recognised for her organised and dependable approach.
Her experience supporting dermatology patients allows her to manage enquiries efficiently and help patients access the appropriate clinician.

Megan
Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist Administrator
Megan works closely with the Skin Cancer Nurse Specialists, coordinating clinic documentation, referrals, and biopsy result pathways. Her role supports the safe and timely progression of patients through each stage of their dermatology care.
She holds a degree in English Language and Media from the University of Brighton alongside an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration.
Megan’s communication skills and methodical approach contribute to a supportive and well-organised clinic environment.

Samantha
Administrator
Samantha previously spent seven years working at St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight, including roles within A&E and several outpatient departments.
She brings valuable experience from hospital environments to her administrative role within the dermatology service and works closely with the Biologics Nurse Specialist to support treatment coordination.
A qualified phlebotomist, Samantha remains committed to professional development while contributing to patient-focused care.

Lily-Mae
Administrator & Reception Support
Lily-Mae plays an important role within the clinic’s administration and reception team. She helps coordinate patient bookings, manages enquiries, and supports the organisation of daily clinic activity.
Her professional background includes roles within veterinary and legal practices, reflecting strong attention to detail and adaptability.
Lily-Mae holds a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care and is committed to providing helpful, reliable support to patients and colleagues.

Chelsea
Administrator & Reception Support
Chelsea works across both administration and reception, assisting patients with appointments, enquiries, and general clinic coordination. She helps ensure visitors to the clinic receive a friendly and organised service from their first point of contact.
Chelsea holds a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from the University of Winchester and has professional experience across customer-focused roles, including insurance services, hospitality, and academic support.
Her strong communication skills and positive approach make her a valued member of the clinic team.

Jessica
Charity Co-ordinator
Jessica supports the Community Benefit work of The Lighthouse Clinic, helping residents access skin health services across the Isle of Wight.
She coordinates outreach initiatives, including Skin Checks, Skin Cancer Information Sessions, and workplace health checks for local businesses and emergency services.
Jessica also works with local charities such as the Isle of Wight Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, providing administrative support that helps members and trustees access advice, resources, and services.
Her previous role within the Isle of Wight Ambulance Control Room provides valuable insight into NHS systems and patient needs.
The Clinical Team

Dr Richard E Ashton MA MB BChir MD FRCP
Consultant Dermatologist, Dermatological Surgeon & Clinical Lead
Dr Ashton is a highly respected Consultant Dermatologist with more than 30 years of experience in general and surgical dermatology.
A graduate of Trinity College Cambridge and St Bartholomew’s Hospital London, he also served as Consultant Dermatologist to the Royal Navy, retiring with the rank of Surgeon Captain.
Dr Ashton has particular expertise in skin cancer diagnosis, Mohs surgery, and dermatological surgery. He is also co-author of the medical textbook Differential Diagnosis in Dermatology.
As Clinical Lead at The Lighthouse Clinic, he provides leadership while continuing to deliver expert care to patients.

Dr Louay Al-Mukhtar
GP with Extended Role in Dermatology
Dr Louay Al-Mukhtar qualified in medicine at Basrah University in 1990 and has extensive experience in general practice and dermatology.
He holds a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University and is a member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society.
Dr Louay has a particular interest in the relationship between skin conditions and systemic disease, helping patients understand how their overall health can influence dermatological conditions.

Dr Patrick Wills
GP with Extended Role in Dermatology
Dr Patrick Wills is a GP partner and trainer with a long-standing interest in dermatology.
He qualified in medicine at King’s College London and completed a Diploma in Practical Dermatology at Cardiff University.
Dr Wills also has additional experience in genito-urinary medicine and sexual health, bringing a broad clinical perspective to dermatology care.

Dr Maria Giorgetti
GP with Special Interest in Dermatology
Dr Maria Giorgetti qualified in medicine at the National University of Rosario in Argentina before completing GP training in Spain.
She moved to the Isle of Wight in 2017 where she further developed her interest in dermatology. She holds a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University and is a member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society.
Maria takes a holistic approach to patient care, recognising how overall health and personal circumstances can influence skin conditions.

Rebecca Gautier
Dermatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Rebecca has more than 40 years of nursing experience and has specialised in dermatology since 2003.
Her expertise includes phototherapy, skin surgery, and independent nurse prescribing. She treats a wide range of conditions, including melanoma, acne, rosacea, and psoriasis.
Rebecca was born in Bembridge and is proud to provide dermatology care to patients within her local Isle of Wight community.

Helen Pole
Dermatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Helen has over 30 years of nursing experience across the Isle of Wight, Southampton, and Portsmouth.
Her specialist areas include surgical dermatology, skin cancer recognition, and minor surgical procedures.
Helen previously worked as a Community Matron coordinating complex care across hospital and community services. She is also an Independent Nurse Prescriber.

Hayley
Dermatology Nurse
Hayley is an experienced Dermatology Nurse with nearly 20 years of nursing practice in the UK and internationally.
Her early career focused on oncology, haematology, and palliative care, providing a strong foundation in complex patient support.
Hayley’s dermatology work includes skin cancer surgery, phototherapy, wound care, lesion assessment, Teledermatology, and phlebotomy. She also has a particular interest in sclerotherapy.

Amanda Pushparajah
Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist
Amanda began her nursing career in 1995 and has extensive experience in cancer and palliative care.
She has worked internationally with Médecins Sans Frontières in Zambia supporting patients with HIV/AIDS and gained emergency and tropical disease experience at St Thomas’s Hospital in London.
Since joining The Lighthouse Clinic in 2020, Amanda has been dedicated to supporting patients diagnosed with skin cancer.

Peyote Paterson
Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist
Before entering nursing, Peyote worked as a flight attendant before pursuing a career in healthcare. She completed her nursing degree in Brighton and developed a strong interest in acute clinical care.
Much of her nursing career has been spent working within critical care environments, where she gained valuable experience supporting patients with complex medical needs.
At The Lighthouse Clinic, Peyote contributes to the skin cancer service while continuing her professional development. She is currently undertaking a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Louise
Dermatology Trainee Nurse Associate & Research Lead
Louise leads the clinic’s research programme, monitoring the long-term safety of psoriasis treatments.
She also runs phlebotomy and phototherapy clinics and contributes to NHS Health Checks delivered both in clinic and through community outreach initiatives across the Isle of Wight.
Louise holds a CertHE in Healthcare with Health Science and is completing a Foundation Degree in Nursing Associate Practice with plans to progress to a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing.

Libby
Student Nurse (Adult Nursing)
Libby is a Student Nurse within the clinical support team and has quickly developed confidence across a wide range of clinical responsibilities.
Her work includes assisting clinicians during consultations and procedures, supporting phlebotomy clinics, and contributing to NHS Health Checks delivered both in the clinic and through community outreach programmes across the Isle of Wight.
After achieving a T-Level qualification in Health, Libby progressed to begin her Adult Nursing degree.
Her enthusiasm for learning and calm approach in clinical settings reflect her commitment to developing a long-term career in healthcare.

Elaine Ashdown
Clinical Assistant & Phlebotomist
Elaine Ashdown supports dermatology patients with a wide range of clinical skills developed through roles in social care, education, and hospital settings.
Before joining the clinic, she worked as an Emergency Department Assistant at St Mary’s Hospital.
Elaine is trained in venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, bladder scanning, blood glucose monitoring, and Immediate Life Support. She also leads NHS Health Checks and regularly runs phototherapy clinics.

Vicki
Receptionist & Healthcare Assistant
Vicki is often the first point of contact for patients visiting the clinic.
With a strong background in customer service from several well-known Island businesses, she provides a warm welcome while managing the busy front desk.
Alongside reception duties, Vicki is training as a Healthcare Assistant and contributes to the clinic’s surgical dermatology services.
