Supporting Skcin and Skin Cancer Awareness
The Lighthouse Clinic is proud to support Skcin, a national charity dedicated to the prevention and early detection of skin cancer through education, awareness, and community engagement.
Skcin raises awareness of skin surveillance, sun safety, and early diagnosis, while providing trusted resources and national campaigns to help reduce the impact of skin cancer across the UK.
As part of our community benefit work, we support initiatives that:
- Improve awareness of skin cancer
- Encourage early conversations about skin health
- Increase access to education within the local community
MASCED Training Programme - Supporting Early Detection of Skin Cancer on the Isle of Wight
The Lighthouse Clinic is pleased to support access to the Skcin MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) Training Programme.
MASCED is a nationally recognised training programme designed to help professionals who regularly see clients’ skin identify potential signs of skin cancer and encourage early medical advice where needed.
This training is particularly relevant for professionals working in:
- Hairdressing and barbering
- Beauty and aesthetics
- Massage and holistic therapy
- Health and wellbeing services
- Fitness and sport
- Healthcare settings
These professionals are often well placed to notice changes in areas of skin that clients or patients may not easily see themselves.
Free MASCED Training Vouchers
Through our community benefit work, we offer fully funded MASCED training vouchers, subject to availability.
The training helps participants to:
- Recognise early signs of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer
- Encourage people to seek medical advice appropriately
- Promote sun safety and skin cancer awareness
- Build confidence in observing skin within their professional role
The programme includes online learning, supporting resources, and certification on completion. It has been reviewed and supported by dermatology organisations and industry bodies.
Why Early Detection Matters
Early detection of skin cancer can significantly improve outcomes. By increasing awareness across community-facing professions, we aim to support:
- Earlier conversations about skin concerns
- Earlier referrals to healthcare professionals
- Better health outcomes for local people
